LSS 2113 Intercultural Studies Project 1: Oral Presentation “Cultural Conflict and Worldview Theory”

LSS 2113 Intercultural Studies
Project 1: Oral Presentation “Cultural Conflict and Worldview Theory”

Group Presentation (maximum 3-4 per group): 20%
Due Date: Week 7 (15 – 25 April, 2015)
Time limit: Minimum 20 minutes, Maximum 35 minutes
  1. Select an example of either inter-cultural or intra-cultural conflict which you or someone you know has experienced. If you do not know of such an example you should find one in the media (eg: newspaper, TV, radio etc). It should involve one or more people from your own culture. Your teacher will show you some examples of the kind of topics that might be appropriate.
  1. Describe the conflict objectively, explaining the factors which led to the conflict and how it was or was not resolved.
  1. Now apply the worldview theory (innocence/guilt, honour/shame, power/fear) to your example and try to analyse each person’s perspective. Your analysis should demonstrate your understanding of all three worldviews. Remember to support your opinions with examples and evidence. As this is a group project, you will need to spend time discussing the example and the worldviews together to try to reach a consensus of opinion.
  1. Using your intercultural intelligence, recommend a better way to respond to the conflict.
You can use photos, images, diagrams, multimedia or simple slides to illustrate your presentation.
